As any prominent prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.
Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
- Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world and have been for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
